Resource IDs

About resource ID

In Openstack, every resource created (line an instance, volume, network or security group) has a unique identifier. These IDs are generated automatically for every resource being created, the user can't modify them. Important property of such ID is that, unlike a name, the ID is guaranteed to be unique within the entire cloud (and probably even across all the clouds)

A typical ID may look like this: 99a6bf4c-d59d-4c90-8254-e03fd1120917

An ID is the most reliable way to locate proper resource. Thus, when you contact the support team about an issue with any specific resource (like an instance or a volume), it is always a smart idea to provide the ID (and not just the name) of the resource in question.
